Pepper, George Wharton



1867-1961, American jurist, b. Philadelphia. He practiced law in Philadelphia and was (1893-1910) professor of law at the Univ. of Pennsylvania. Pepper was appointed in 1922 to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Boies Penrose , and, elected on the Republican ticket later the same year, he served in the Senate until 1927. He wrote many books on law and was also the author of In the Senate (1930) and Family Quarrels (1931).
