Houbraken, Arnold
(är´nōlt hou´brä´ken) , 1660-1719, Dutch painter, etcher, and author of The Great Theatre of Dutch Painters (3 vol., 1718-21), containing important biographies. His son Jacobus Houbraken, 1698-1780, a well-known engraver, worked chiefly in Amsterdam, executing over 500 portraits and book illustrations including those for his father's volumes.
