1691-1754, English publisher. He founded (1731) the Gentleman's Magazine, the first modern magazine in English. Cave gave Samuel Johnson his first regular literary employment when he printed (1741-44) Johnson's parliamentary reports,
“Debates in the Senate of Magna Lilliputia,”
in his periodical. Later Cave published other works by Johnson.
